My name is Darcy, although I go by and respond to many pet names. Let’s get to what you really want to know – why am I a dirty Westie? Well, I am a West Highland White Terrier and a Chihuahua and I wasn’t too fond of being called a Chestie or a West-huahua. So a dirty Westie is what I was coined because in all honesty, I look a lot like a Westie but with a light tan coat and some rusty low-lights (as mom calls them). I even get mistaken for a Cairn Terrier from time to time, especially when I’m with my brother (my Cairn sidekick). So other than the fact that my ears are a little bigger, and my tail is a little longer the fact still stands – I’M DAMN CUTE!
I was born 1/9/2005 (I share my birthday with my momma’s favorite singer, Dave Matthews)
My story is pretty typical of a rescued dog. My doggy family background was sketchy. DogMother was a Westie, dogfather was the Chi. As it’s been explained to me; in a puppy mill – or one might call it a greedy overbreeder – my “father” somehow hooked up with my mother. My mother was 11 when she had me and she had bred many litters of pups since she was 6 months old. The puppy mill decided that they didn’t want my mother anymore because she wasn’t going to have pure Westie pups. Fortunately, while my mother was pregnant with me and my blood sister, she was taken in by a wonderful group who adopts ‘senior’ animals who need a place to live out the rest of their lives. My sis and I were born a few week later and spent the appropriate 8 weeks with our mother where I kinda-sorta learned my manners.
My human parents spent a lot (I mean a lot) of time getting me trained. It’s more like I trained them. But they seem rather pleased with me and my mostly lady-like behavior. I am 6 after all, sheesh! I know all sorts of tricks and do pretty well at coming when called, but I gotta live up to my terrier qualities of being stubborn and hard-headed from time to time… a tend to honor my Scottish heritage more so than the other (see bagpipe photo below).
